IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award for the Innovative 2016 INFINITI QX60

With the recent award win from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, the 2016 INFINITI QX60 can proudly add its choice safety features and structural integrity to its long list of impressive specifications. The IIHS’s highest honor, the Top Safety Pick+ designation, was awarded to this premium crossover model due to its impressive performance in the latest crash tests. The Top Safety Pick+ award is only given to vehicles that have Good ratings for the five crashworthiness categories and a Superior rating for its collision prevention systems.

When tested with the optional Forward Emergency Braking system equipped, the 2016 QX60 received the Superior rating for crash prevention and mitigation. Good ratings were given for all five crashworthiness tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. Excellent Crash Prevention Technologies

As the Superior rating requirement suggests, crash prevention and mitigation systems are most important in keeping drivers and passengers safe on the road. The 2016 QX60 is absolutely filled with standard and optional safety features that actively prevent low and high speed collisions.

The Forward Emergency Braking system actively detects the vehicle’s distance from other vehicles, objects and people in and along the roadway. Upon detecting an obstruction, the vehicle utilizes its automatic speed calculations to issue a warning to the driver and immediately apply the brakes to prevent a collision.

Parking and backing accidents are prevented through the use of the Backup Collision Intervention and Around View Monitor systems. The Backup Collision Intervention system issues an alert if the vehicle comes close to obstacles detected in the intended path of the vehicle. The Around View Monitor gives drivers a clear view around the entire vehicle by way of four wide-angle cameras. Drivers can simply glance at the screen in the center console to receive real-time information about people, vehicles and objects around the QX60.

Incredible Crashworthiness Features

Even with high tech safety features equipped, accidents will still happen on occasion. To keep drivers and passengers safe during a collision, INFINITI maximized the structural integrity of their QX60 design and equipped the vehicle with the best airbag system available.

The five crashworthiness tests revealed just how well these systems work together to prevent driver and passenger injuries. In the small overlap front test, for example, the passenger compartment remained uncompromised due to the door frames and dash structure retaining their position despite heavy front end damage.

All seven seats in this crossover are highly protected by the Advanced Air Bag System. The system utilizes seat belt and occupant detection technologies to deploy the dual stage air bags and cushion occupants during a collision. Child seat attachment anchors equipped in the rear rows provide an extra layer of protection for youngsters riding in rear-facing, forward-facing or booster car seats.
